Accelerated Reader is a program that allows children to foster independent reading.  At the John Glenn School, third, fourth and fifth graders are participating in this program. Children take a comprehension test called the STAR, which provides data on their reading level and appropriate book level.  Based on that criterion, children will select books on both their book level and will take an Accelerated Reader Quiz.  Each book is worth a certain number of points, which is determined by the content, number of words, and vocabulary within the text.  As their incentive to keep reading, the John Glenn School is rewarding our students with metals (dog tags), which have point level goals of 8, 25, 50, 100 and above.

Reading is a fundamental part of the mission of the John Glenn School and this program provides an excellent foundation for building lifelong readers.
